Wake County School RedistrictingDue to the increased growth rate in Wake County, our public schools are full. Therefore, this year Abbington has been impacted by the current reassignment plan. While the school administration has proposed a 'final plan', there is still time for input to the elected school board members. Your feedback can impact the final result. Here's some information about the process. Abbington is divided into two nodes, 398.4 and 590.0 (planning areas defined by Wake County schools). Node 398.4 will stay at Olive Chapel Elementary and node 590.0 is reassigned to Green Hope Elementary. Both nodes are assigned to Apex Middle School. The changes for us are both nodes moving from Apex HS to Panther Creek HS (grades 9 & 10 this year) and node 590.0 moving from Farmington Woods Elementary to Green Hope Elementary. Panther Creek HS is a new school opening in Fall '06. The school is at 6770 McCrimmon Parkway, west of Hwy 55 and North of Morrisville-Caprenter Road. On a typical school morning, driving time is 20-25 minutes. The town of Apex is being split over 3 high schools. The Wake County board of Education and the school system staff have established several avenues for public comment about the assignement proposal. Send email to studentassignment@wcpss.net. Send a letter to wake County Public Schools, Growth and Planning P.O. Box 26868, Raleigh, NC 2761106868. The final public hearings for those nodes that were just moved on 3/8/02 (which includes our node 590.0) will be at 6:00pm on Monday, March 20 at WCPSS building on wake Forest Road. Please come out and support your neighbors as they request to stay at Farmington Woods rather than be transferred to Green Hope Elementary.
The board is expected to approve the final plan March 21.

Please Help! Abbington HS Students to be Re-assigned to Panther Creek
Dear Abbington neighbors,
Many of your neighbors have spent countless hours trying to convince the Wake County school board members to keep our children at Apex High and not
to reassign them to Panther Creek High School. We believe it is in the best interest of our children to keep them at AHS. Panther Creek will be over capacity by the 2nd year the school is open. The board realizes that our
children will once again need to be reassigned, but they feel this is okay since they can grandfather them. It is not okay to use our children as ping pong balls in the immediate interest of filling seats at a new school.
We are asking for your help. Please take a few minutes to e-mail our Wake County School Board members. Please send an e-mail that requests Abbington's 2 nodes, 398.4 and 590.0, be allowed to remain at Apex
High School. We are also requesting that the node just south of us, 634.0, remain at AHS. These three nodes connect to other nodes that they recently pulled out of the reassignment plan and put back into AHS.
It will take MANY e-mails from our neighborhood to get the board's attention. Even if you don't have children affected by this reassignment, please support your neighbors by quickly e-mailing our board members. You
can send the same short e-mail to each member by going onto http://www.wcpss.net/Board/contact.
Thank you for supporting our Abbington children! The battle is not over yet! Please e-mail the board now.
They will present their final plan on March21st
