- Town Council Delays Consideration of Transportation PlanPosted on: 2006-02-24You made a difference!!!! Thank you for emailing our councilmen and making it clear that we did not need to
act on the Transportation Plan at this time. Councilman Gene Schulz remarked on the number of emails he had received and promised to answer each one. Mike Jones noted that he had received a lot of emails but had not read any of them.
Town Council decided to delay consideration until after hearing the results of three regional studies that should be done by the end of June. Several Councilmen also heard our concerns about Beaver Creek Crossings Road emptying at our side entrance and asked that the Planning Dept look into moving that intersection farther north on Kelly Road. If BCC Rd. intersects Kelly at Wendhurst and the intersection at Kelly and 64 is not improved with a full-movement stop light, expect a ton of traffic cutting through our neighborhood at all hours, not just at the morning rush.
Council also heard our concern about the proposal to widen Jenks Rd. to four lanes. Widening Jenks Road to four lanes is an open invitation to WalMart and would serve no other purpose.
On another front, Representative Paul Stam and Sen. Richard Stevens met with Sec. Lyndo Tippett, DOT, on February 27 to press for a full-movement stop light at Kelly and 64. This would go a long way to solving our cut-through traffic problem.
Look for more information on the Transportation Plan and other concerns that affect Abbington and residents of Western Wake County. Making your concerns heard is an important tool in getting things done. Emails are important. Your presence at the Town Council meeting
is also very important. One or two people are easily dismissed by elected officials; a full room is a voting block.
Thanks for your continuing interest and efforts.

- Wake County School RedistrictingPosted on: 2006-02-28Due to the increased growth rate in Wake County, our public schools are full. Therefore, this year Abbington has been impacted by the current reassignment plan. While the school administration has proposed a 'final plan', there is still time for input to the elected school board members. Your feedback can impact the final result. Here's some information about the process. Abbington is divided into two nodes, 398.4 and 590.0 (planning areas defined by Wake County schools). Node 398.4 will stay at Olive Chapel Elementary and node 590.0 is reassigned to Green Hope Elementary. Both nodes are assigned to Apex Middle School. The changes for us are both nodes moving from Apex HS to Panther Creek HS (grades 9 & 10 this year) and node 590.0 moving from Farmington Woods Elementary to Green Hope Elementary. Panther Creek HS is a new school opening in Fall '06. The school is at 6770 McCrimmon Parkway, west of Hwy 55 and North of Morrisville-Caprenter Road. On a typical school morning, driving time is 20-25 minutes. The town of Apex is being split over 3 high schools. The Wake County board of Education and the school system staff have established several avenues for public comment about the assignement proposal. Send email to studentassignment@wcpss.net. Send a letter to wake County Public Schools, Growth and Planning P.O. Box 26868, Raleigh, NC 2761106868. The final public hearings for those nodes that were just moved on 3/8/02 (which includes our node 590.0) will be at 6:00pm on Monday, March 20 at WCPSS building on wake Forest Road. Please come out and support your neighbors as they request to stay at Farmington Woods rather than be transferred to Green Hope Elementary.
The board is expected to approve the final plan March 21.Website:www.assignmentbychoice.org - Abbington community Association Annual Meeting - March 21, 2006Posted on: 2006-03-19Mark your calendars! - Please Help! Abbington HS Students to be Re-assigned to Panther CreekPosted on: 2006-03-20Dear Abbington neighbors,
Many of your neighbors have spent countless hours trying to convince the Wake County school board members to keep our children at Apex High and not
to reassign them to Panther Creek High School. We believe it is in the best interest of our children to keep them at AHS. Panther Creek will be over capacity by the 2nd year the school is open. The board realizes that our
children will once again need to be reassigned, but they feel this is okay since they can grandfather them. It is not okay to use our children as ping pong balls in the immediate interest of filling seats at a new school.
We are asking for your help. Please take a few minutes to e-mail our Wake County School Board members. Please send an e-mail that requests Abbington's 2 nodes, 398.4 and 590.0, be allowed to remain at Apex
High School. We are also requesting that the node just south of us, 634.0, remain at AHS. These three nodes connect to other nodes that they recently pulled out of the reassignment plan and put back into AHS.
It will take MANY e-mails from our neighborhood to get the board's attention. Even if you don't have children affected by this reassignment, please support your neighbors by quickly e-mailing our board members. You
can send the same short e-mail to each member by going onto http://www.wcpss.net/Board/contact.
Thank you for supporting our Abbington children! The battle is not over yet! Please e-mail the board now.
They will present their final plan on March21st.Website:www.wcpss.net/Board/contact - Please Help! Abbington HS Students to be Re-assigned to Panther CreekPosted on: 2006-03-20Dear Abbington neighbors,
